Analysis on TCM characteristics of cough expectoration and asthma in 138 patients with chronic fibrotic interstitial lung disease
Objective To summarize and analyze the characteristics of cough, expectoration and asthma in 138 patients with chronic fibrotic interstitial lung disease(CF-ILD). Methods The study enrolled patients with CF-ILD who were treated in the Respiratory Department of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from October 2016 to December 2018. All patients filled the TCM syndrome scale in order to collect the characteristics of TCM symptoms they had, including cough, expectoration and asthma. Results The characteristics of cough of CF-ILD patients were severe cough in winter(54.62%) and more severe when smelling oil fume odor(78.46%). The common accompanied symptoms of cough were shortness of breath(53.08%), suffocation of the chest(44.62%) and chest tightness(23.85%). The characteristics of expectoration are less sputum(60.77%), sticky phlegm(56.92%) and white sputum(66.15%). The most common manifestations of asthmatic breath were shortness of breath after exertion(87.69%), shallow and fast breathing(75.38%) and insufficient breath(66.92%). Conclusion The characteristics of cough, expectoration and asthma in patients with chronic fibrotic interstitial lung disease are significantly heterogeneous compared with other respiratory diseases, which should be identified in clinical practice.
