Connotation of TCM prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus panangiopathy based on the theory of "latent evil blocking collaterals"
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) panangiopathy refers to a clinical syndrome in T2DM patients characterized by widespread vascular involvement, including large blood vessels (such as the heart, brain, eyes, kidneys, and peripheral vessels) as well as microvessels. Atherosclerosis is the common pathological feature, and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events are the primary outcomes. Effectively preventing vascular hyperglycemia and its "metabolic memory" is the core of current clinical prevention and treatment for T2DM panangiopathy. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), "latent evil" refers to pathogenic factors hidden within the body that do not immediately cause disease (including sugar turbidity, sugar stasis, sugar toxins, and fat turbidity). These factors tend to hide in the collateral vessels and are involved in the onset and progression of T2DM panangiopathy, leading to high blood sugar "metabolic memory", which damages the vascular endothelium and exacerbates the condition. Under the guidance of the theory of "latent evil blocking collaterals”, exploring the role of TCM in the prevention and treatment of T2DM panangiopathy is of great significance, offering valuable insights for expanding clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies.
