Efficacy and prognosis observation of Chinese medicine enema via colon hydrotherapy device combined with mesalazine in treatment of active ulcerative colitis
To observe the efficacy and prognosis of Chinese medicine enema via colon hydrotherapy device combined with mesalazine in the treatment of active ulcerative colitis.
Methods
2
A total of 90 patients with active ulcerative colitis, who were treated at our hospital from January 2021 to October 2023, were selected for a prospective study. They were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group according to a random number table, with 45 cases in each group. Both groups received routine treatment, and the control group was additionally given mesalazine enteric-coated tablets orally (1 g per dose,4 times per day). The observation group, on the basis of the control group's treatment, was given Chinese medicine enema via colon hydrotherapy device (once per day,for 14 days, followed by a 2-day rest period). Both groups were treated continuously for 3 months. The efficacy of treatment, recurrence rate, adverse reactions, changes in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome scores, serum inflammatory factors[interleukin-8(IL-8), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)], Baron classification, Sutherland Disease Activity Index(DAI), and Modified Mayo score were compared before and after treatment.
Results
2
The total effective rate in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group(
P
<
0.05), and the recurrence rate was significantly lower in the observation group(
P
<
0.01). Compared with baseline, the TCM syndrome scores in both groups decreased after treatment(
P
<
0.05), and the scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group(
P
<
0.05). After treatment, the serum levels of IL-8, TNF-α, and hs-CRP were significantly
reduced in both groups(
P
<
0.05), with the observation group showing significantly lower levels than the control group(
P
<
0.05). The Baron score, DAI, and Mayo scores all decreased significantly after treatment in both groups(
P
<
0.05), and the observation group had significantly lower scores than the control group (
P
<
0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(
P
>
0.05).
Conclusion
2
Chinese medicine enema via colon hydrotherapy device combined with mesalazine is highly effective in treating active ulcerative colitis, with a low recurrence rate. It can significantly improve clinical symptoms and reduce inflammatory responses.
