Effect of medicinal cupping technique in treating limb numbness in stroke patients
To observe the intervention effect of cupping therapy on limb numbness in stroke patients.
Methods
2
Patients with stroke and limb numbness who visited the Emergency Department of Guang’anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2024, were enrolled. According to whether they received cupping therapy, patients were divided into an observation group and a control group. There were 159 patients in the acute phase of stroke: 107 in the control group and 52 in the observation group; 62 patients in the recovery phase: 32 in the control group and 30 in the observation group. The control group received routine nursing care, while the observation group received routine care plus daily cupping therapy for two weeks. Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Activities of Daily Living (ADL), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, patient satisfaction, and compliance of the two groups were assessed and compared before and after the intervention.
Results
2
Both groups in the acute and recovery phases showed significant improvement in ADL, VAS, and NIHSS scores after intervention compared to baseline (
P
<
0.05). In the acute phase, the observation group had significantly better VAS and NIHSS scores than the control group after intervention (
P
<
0.05). In the recovery phase, the observation group showed significantly better ADL and VAS scores compared to the control g
roup (
P
<
0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in patient satisfaction and compliance between the two groups in either phase (
P
>
0.05).
Conclusion
2
Cupping therapy can significantly improve limb numbness, daily living activities, and neurological deficits in stroke patients, with high patient satisfaction and compliance.
