Syndrome differentiation and treatment of ulcerative colitis from "deficiency, dampness, heat, stasis, and toxicity"
The etiology of ulcerative colitis (UC) is complex, and the condition is prolonged and difficult to cure. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has certain advantages in treating UC. ZHOU Zhenghua believes that spleen qi deficiency is the fundamental cause of UC, while dampness, heat, stasis, and toxicity run throughout the disease course. In clinical practice, professor ZHOU approaches treatment from the perspective of "deficiency, dampness, heat, stasis, and toxicity", with the main therapeutic principles of strengthening the spleen to tonify deficiency, clearing heat, resolving dampness, and dispersing stasis to remove toxins, often achieving rapid efficacy.
