Clinical and basic research on differentiation and treatment of ankylosing spondylitis in traditional Chinese medicine: a review
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic disease with a long course, prone to disability and deformity, and with poor prognosis. At present, there is still a lack of curative drugs and methods, seriously affecting patients' quality of life. Meta-analyses indicate that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has definite efficacy in treating AS and has been widely applied in clinical practice. This article introduces and reviews five aspects,
i.e.
, the etiology and pathogenesis of AS in TCM, analysis of basic syndromes, evaluation of the efficacy of Chinese medicine, evaluation of the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion, and the mechanisms underlying TCM efficacy, aiming to provide a reference for clinical research on TCM treatment of AS.
