One case of oculomotor nerve palsy treated by WEI's triple nine-needling therapy combined with acupoint injection
Oculomotor nerve palsy is a disease caused by lesions in various regions that result in loss of function of the oculomotor nerve and its innervated tissues. It can lead to symptoms such as ptosis, with clinical manifestations primarily including extraocular muscle paralysis. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it is classified as "upper eyelid drooping disease" and is relatively common among ophthalmic conditions. Western medical treatments for this disease have progressed slowly and typically involve long treatment cycles. This article reports a case of oculomotor nerve palsy in which the patient developed binocular diplopia, left upper eyelid drooping, and restricted ocular movement after catching a cold. The patient was treated with WEI’s triple nine-needling therapy combined with compound anisodine injection and mecobalamine injection at acupoints. After two standardized treatment courses, the patient showed significant improvement. This case provides a new clinical approach for the treatment of oculomotor nerve palsy.
