Evaluation of clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture infusion method for discogenic low back pain based on MB-Ruler
To observe the clinical efficacy of the electroacupuncture infusion method for the treatment of discogenic low back pain based on the MB-Ruler.
Methods
2
Sixty patients with discogenic low back pain, who visited the Orthopedics and Acupuncture and Moxibustion Departments of Dongzhimen Hospital, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from May 2023 to May 2024, were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 30 cases in each. The observation group was treated with electroacupuncture at the lumbar

points (L2~L5), 30 minutes per session, once every other day, 3 times per week, continuously for 2 weeks. The control group received oral celecoxib capsules, 1 capsule per dose, twice daily, for 2 weeks. Follow-up assessments were conducted at 1 and 3 months after the treatment course. Lumbar joint mobility was measured using the MB-Ruler before and after treatment. Pain was evaluated using the visual analogue scale (VAS), and lumbar functional impairment was assessed using the oswestry disability index (ODI). Adverse events during treatment were recorded.
Results
2
After treatment, lumbar joint mobility in the control group showed no significant change compared with baseline (
P
>
0.05), while in the observation group, forward flexion, backward extension, left lateral flexion, and right lateral flexion all increased significantly compared with baseline (
P
<
0.05), and were superior to the control group (
P
<
0.05). After treatment and at 1- and 3-month follow-ups, VAS and ODI scores decreased significantly in both groups compared with baseline (
P
<
0.05), with the observation group showing lower scores than the control group (
P
<
0.05). Two cases of subcutaneous hematoma occurred in the observation group, both resolving spontaneously. All patients in both groups completed the treatment without serious adverse reactions.
Conclusion
2
The electroacupuncture infusion method can increase lumbar joint mobility, relieve pain, and improve lumbar function in patients with discogenic low back pain, with a high safety profile.
