HU Kaiwen's experience in treating cancer-related insomnia by warming method
Insomnia is one of the common complications in patients with cancer and seriously affects their quality of life and clinical efficacy. Based on years of clinical practice, Professor HU Kaiwen holds that the fundamental cause of cancer-related insomnia lies in spleen-kidney
yang
deficiency, leading to the accumulation of phlegm-fluid, which disrupts the communication between
yin
and
yang
, prevents
yang
from entering
yin
, and ultimately results in insomnia. Based on this understanding, Professor HU applies the classical theory that "those suffering from phlegm-fluid retention should be treated with warm drugs", taking "warming" as the fundamental therapeutic principle for cancer-related insomnia. By warming and tonifying the spleen and kidneys to treat the root, and by warming and transforming phlegm-fluid and eliminating obstruction based on syndrome differentiation to treat the manifestations, both root and manifestations are addressed simultaneously. This approach restores the healthy
qi
, eliminates pathogenic factors, harmonizes
yin
and
yang
, and calms the mind, thereby achieving significant therapeutic effects.
