Cerebral infarction and glioma are two common brain diseases. In Western medicine, glioma is mainly treated with surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, whereas cerebral infarction is primarily managed with thrombectomy, thrombolysis, and anticoagulation. Based on syndrome differentiation and treatment, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) allows for the treatment of different diseases sharing the same syndrome. This article briefly reports a case of cerebral infarction misdiagnosed as glioma, in which the patient had no opportunity for surgical treatment and was treated solely with TCM based on syndrome differentiation, achieving favorable recovery. Professor WU Jie believes that in the treatment of encephalopathy, syndrome differentiation should take precedence over disease differentiation, brain collaterals should be dredged, and blood, flesh, and sentient substances should be used according to syndrome differentiation.
